Everybody's mad about the GTA VI delays and I get it, I really do. People have been waiting on this game for over a decade at this point. However I'm not tripping. I know that sounds crazy coming from somebody who makes content and lives on the internet, but hear me out.
Why the wait doesn't bother me
Whenever that game comes out I want to be in the best spot possible to really juice it. That's the whole thing for me. I'm paying attention to RP, I'm paying attention to some of the stuff that was happening in Red Dead, I'm paying attention to the streaming world and the culture and even the politics. Because that's what this game is going to be about. Everybody keeps saying we need a new Boondocks, they wish Boondocks was still here. Our Boondocks is GTA. That's the show. The whole country gets roasted in one map and we all get to play in it.
So if Rockstar needs more time I'm going to use that time too.
"It's going to disappoint people day one"
My cohost Ray said it on the pod, people are going to get the game and say you're telling me I waited a decade for this. And he might be right about some people however I don't think it matters. I'm my analogy guy so let me make one. When Carti pushes an album back, we get mad. We get real mad. But once it drops it's up and nobody remembers the wait. Ray said music fans are conditioned to wait on delays and video games aren't the same, which is fair. But the difference between GTA and some other game is the amount of free promotion. It doesn't matter if it's good or not on day one, people are going to play it and people are going to watch people play it. Which is the part people keep forgetting.
GTA V came out in 2013 and Rockstar has been running it ever since. I've also been noticing they've been testing things in GTA V with the smaller updates, graphics and cars and things that feel like they touch VI. Ray pushed back and said they've had DLCs since the game dropped, which is true. I still think some of these latest ones are them beta testing with a smaller pool of players and I think that's smart marketing.
GTA is a UGC game
I was at a panel at Georgia State recently for gaming and esports and when they talked about where the trends are going user generated content came up a lot. Games like Roblox and Fortnite where you play a whole bunch of other games inside of one game. One thing a lot of people forget is GTA is a UGC game. The biggest UGC content GTA has is RP, and from everything I'm hearing Rockstar is trying to handle that on their end now. There might be limits on the mods and what people can do, I get that worry. But if Rockstar is managing it themselves they might get rights and licenses for way more brands than before. Think about what AI models are getting away with right now when it comes to using brands. The times are changing and GTA is going to be right in the middle of it. I wrote about where all this was heading a while back in the approaching new age of gaming and technology.
My spin back message
I've been making content about GTA VI for a while now so let me put this on the record. You remember when everybody was saying metaverse, metaverse? Everybody was saying it then and I'm saying it now, GTA is the metaverse.
2K, you're in trouble, because guess what, GTA is going to put that in the game. Gambling, I guarantee it, GTA VI is going to have some sort of gambling in it. A Black Call of Duty, if that's what you're building, GTA VI is coming for you too. As this one game is going to converge everything that's floating around in the culture right now and this is the perfect game to do it.
And think about storage. PlayStation prices already went up again this year and the game that's probably going to need the most storage is GTA VI. There isn't going to be a better game to have a meta version or an AI version of yourself in than GTA VI. I'm dead serious.
Why it's bigger than a game
I think GTA VI is going to be one of the most culturally impacting video games to come out within a decade. Not just gaming, media in general. Rockstar built a reputation on quality and most studios can't say that. So when people ask me if the delays are going to kill it, no. Like I said on the pod it doesn't matter if it's good or not on day one, people are going to play it and watch it and that's free promotion no other game gets.
Somebody might be disappointed day one. That's fine with me, because I'm looking at what the game turns into once RP and the streamers and the brands get their hands on it.
The game is set for November 19 and I'm ready whenever they are. If you want everything else dropping this month too, here's every November game worth your money. So I want to know, are you one of the people who's going to be mad on day one or are you already planning your first RP character? Tell me in the CXM Discord.

Did I get this ranking right?
