I'm gonna say this right now. Attack on Titan is better than JJK. I said it on episode three of Inside The Screen, the homies came at me for it and I'm gonna keep it right there. However JJK is definitely still a top 10 anime and I want to explain both of those at the same time because I don't think they cancel each other out.

Why I used to hate JJK

I was very public about hating JJK and I tell this story all the time. I'm an easy hater. Like One Piece, I'm never gonna watch it and I'm probably gonna forever hate it. But my JJK hate actually had a reason. When JJK season one dropped, episodes one through three, that was toward the end of Attack on Titan. The final episodes. So I'm on Twitter and people are already talking about JJK being the greatest anime of all time.

Meanwhile I'm over here watching Attack on Titan, I'm seeing people die, I'm seeing Gabi grabbing a rifle. What are we talking about? Greatest anime of all time is Attack on Titan. That was my whole energy.

So I gave it some time. I went to JJK to see what they were talking about and season one was cool. Episode one I was like okay, this is interesting.

What JJK does right

Here's where I give it credit. JJK is top 10 because of how they demonstrate power. Their storytelling in my opinion is also really really good. And the pacing, I'm not a manga reader. I'm pretty sure a lot of manga readers are gonna say they could have done this or that better. But as an anime only watcher the pacing feels like I'm not missing too much. I never feel lost in the story.

I also told y'all on episode four that watching the movie, JJK 0, after season one made me fall even more in love with the anime for some reason. So I came around on it. I think JJK is gonna go down as top 10, maybe even top five ish. It's really good. It's already on my list of shonen anime that will wreck your sleep schedule.

Why Attack on Titan still wins for me

You might be asking why I'd still put Attack on Titan over it if I'm saying all that. For me it goes back to what I was watching when JJK showed up. Attack on Titan was in its final episodes, people were dying, Gabi was grabbing a rifle and that's the bar I was holding JJK up to. Season one of JJK was cool and cool wasn't enough to take the top spot from the show that had me locked in like that. That final stretch is one of the arcs that defined a generation for me.

The homies on the pod told me I have to watch season three before I say anything. They said the fights only get better and that Part 2 is gonna clear. That's fair, and I'll be real with y'all. When we recorded that episode I hadn't started season three yet. I said on the next episode that once I sit down with JJK and Invincible, don't text me, don't call me, I'm binge watching all the way through.

The manga readers

I would be crazy if I didn't mention the manga readers. My girl has the collection, so I can't bring up JJK around her sometimes. One thing I've learned about manga readers is you have to be careful what you bring up in front of them. But I have appreciation for them too because they're like cheat codes when you want to know if an episode is worth it.

Spoiler warning for anime only JJK fans in the next paragraph.

One thing that has me excited is Gojo. In my opinion they gave us one episode of him really going crazy and then they said, you know what, put him away. Shout out to whoever spoiled me on Twitter about where he's at in season three. The homies say whatever happens with him next is gonna be a movie and I'm down. We should all get tickets.

So where does that leave it

Attack on Titan is my pick and JJK is top 10. Those can both be true. And if season three changes my mind I'll come back and say it with my chest because that's how this works.

So where do you have them, is Attack on Titan still the better anime or did JJK season three change the conversation? Argue it out in the CXM Discord.

Did I get this ranking right?
