This week, we’re excited to spotlight Drea. A 23-year-old Alabama-based cosplayer whose work blends artistry, confidence, and transformation. Early in her cosplay journey but already mature in her skill, she is celebrating her first year of cosplay. She is definitely on her way to a great future in the cosplay world.

Based in Birmingham, Drea began her cosplay journey like many others; with curiosity. Around 2020, during the height of COVID, social media pulled her deeper into the world of cosplay. What started as interest quickly turned into intention when she discovered the Facebook community Blerd Over, where she found people who looked like her, shared her passion, and made space for her.

Social media became her inspiration and her stage, giving her space to experiment and fully step into each role she brings to life.

Her first convention, Iron City Comic Con, marked a turning point, where online connection met real-life communities and cosplay became more than a hobby.

On Instagram and TikTok, Drea captures attention with her spirit and high energy. There’s NOTHING like watching a talented Black woman unlocking happiness while she transforms into her favorite anime icon to the music of the show’s theme song, trap bangers, and more. Each post feels unapologetic.

We first met Drea at Atlanime, and her work immediately stood out. Her cosplay of My Hero Academia’s Funeral Dabi (the hair, the contacts, the prosthetics, the detail) was undeniable. But beyond the technical skill, it was the artistry and confidence she carried that left the deepest impression.

Drea represents what cosplay can be when safe spaces exist; spaces where Black girls can show up boldly, creatively, and unapologetically. It’s powerful to see her finding a community that supports, celebrates and makes her feel included. As a community, it’s on us to keep building and protecting those spaces so creators like her can thrive.

Drea continues to grow, connect and explore new transformations. As a true shapeshifter, she’s focused on honing her craft, attending more conventions, and collaborating with other cosplayers in the community. She’s excited for what’s ahead.

With over 9K followers on TikTok, her journey is just getting started. If you’re attending Kami-Con in Birmingham, keep your eyes open! You just might catch Drea in one of the most stunning cosplay in the room.

She’s on her way up, and we’re excited to spotlight her extraordinary journey.
