Shaboozey already flipped the country music playbook and now he's coming for nerdom.
The Grammy winner is making his San Diego Comic-Con debut next week, and he's not showing up empty-handed. He's bringing The Outlaw Cherie Lee, his first comic book, a three-issue western from Range Comics, the graphic novel imprint backed by Range Media Partners. The book grows straight out of his upcoming album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, which drops July 31.
That's the move worth paying attention to. Shaboozey isn't just releasing a project. He's building a world. Album, comic, and western mythology all under one roof, an artist expanding his story across mediums instead of staying in his lane.
Fans get first access at the con. The comic officially hits stores August 18, but early editions land at Comic-Con, where Shaboozey signs at the Funko Booth on the show floor July 24 at 5:30 p.m. He created the story with Xaivia Inniss, with Robert Jeffrey II on script and Sean Damien Hill on art.
He's also stepping onto fandom's home court. Shaboozey joins Juju Green, better known as Straw Hat Goofy, for a live recording of Green's iHeartRadio podcast, Get Rec'd With Straw Hat Goofy. It's a full-circle look: a Black artist who cracked open Americana sitting down with one of the most recognizable Black voices in anime and geek culture, on the biggest pop culture stage there is.
