The Atlanta underground has found its musical visionary – Kenny Mason.

Mason, Atlanta’s own Westside rapper, known for his genre-blending artistic fusion, released his latest extended play “Pup Pack:1st Shift!” on November 19.

Within only a few years, Mason has captivated audiences while capturing the voice of ATL’s alternative underbelly, garnering respect for his experimental fearlessness and boundary pushing sound.

Following the celebrated 2024 mixtape “Angel Eyes,” an intricate blend of guitars, layered melodies, and moody vocals, fans wondered where Mason’s music could possibly go next. With this release, you can witness, feel, and hear the undeniable cultural shift of an entire creative landscape.

Mason’s “Pup Pack: 1st Shift” EP offered a glimpse of what is to come with the unleashing singles, “Burn It Up”, “A1”, and “Loyalty”.

Brick by brick, release after release, Mason has built a solid foundation spotlighting the emerging nuances of the city’s culture that many, outside the southern music mecca, are just beginning to recognize.

While Atlanta has long reigned as the global hub for trap, Kenny Mason introduces a new wave, a rebellious fusion of hard hitting indie-punk rap, the city’s vibrant underground rage scene fused with garage rock energy. At long last, a new sound has reared its head, redefining Atlanta’s musical identity.

This extended play dives deeper into the intersection of rap and rock, laying down a blueprint entirely his own, boldly jumping fences into a world that many rappers and mainstream artists wouldn’t dare step foot, though many wish they could. That raw, unrestrained commitment to his artistic evolution, is the undeniable allure of Kenny Mason.

It appears that his impact will transcend generations.

On a recent episode of the “Conversate with Killer Mike” podcast, ATL OG Killer Mike praised Mason, saying he reminds him of a “young Outkast,” which is a monumental comparison considering Outkast was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame a few weeks prior.

A massive honor to the city of Atlanta, its icons, and its legacy.

Inspired by early 2000s grunge bands, guitar driven songs, and even video game soundtracks like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and Madden, Mason used these influences expose himself to new genres and shape a musical palette that stretches from Future to My Chemical Romance and Coldplay.

Mason’s music offers listeners a journey to see themselves authentically reflected in a duality of calm and chaos.

Kenny Mason is setting the stage and giving back to his community.

Headlining Cxmmunity Media’s “The Kickback” on December 10th at the Buckhead Theatre, Kenny Mason will be performing tracks from his new extended play.
