This Battlefield Movie Moment Belongs to Us
Last week, Hollywood confirmed that Oscar-winner Michael B. Jordan is attached to star as the lead role. Famed director Christopher McQuarrie is set to lead the adaptation of EA's Battlefield franchise as he has a long-standing successful track record that also includesMission: Impossible.
Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game in the US in 2025, pulling 7 million players in its first three days and finally dethroning Call of Duty. This is one of the biggest IP moments in gaming, and bringing in Michael B. Jordan is probably the most strategic move made so far.
For the Black community, this is more than a casting story. Jordan doesn't just bring star power to a franchise he brings cultural intentionality and spotlight to the community that has been missing in the Battlefield series. His involvement in Battlefield represents a real opportunity for a franchise that has never found its voice with Black audiences to finally do so. For EA to tap into the most influential, underserved force in entertainment culture should expose the franchise to an audience that will have the same love and affinity as they do for other FPS titles.
