After 10+ years of false starts, the Metal Gear Solid movie is officially in motion.
Sony Pictures is developing the film at Columbia Pictures with "Final Destination: Bloodlines" directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein. The project has been in various stages of development for nearly a decade, previously attached to director Jordan Vogt-Roberts before this new announcement.
Lipovsky and Stein are riding high off the latest "Final Destination" film, which reinvigorated the long-running horror franchise and earned over $315 million worldwide. The duo said in a statement that "Metal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima's iconic characters and unforgettable world to life."
No cast or release date has been confirmed yet, but the momentum from last summer's well-received Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake MGS Delta and its Los Angeles event has kept fan anticipation at an all-time high.
For the gaming community, this is a long awaited moment. Metal Gear Solid isn't just a franchise; it's an IP treasure that shaped an entire generation of storytelling and fandom in games. However, the multi-million dollar question is will Hollywood be able to win over the audience that has carried the franchise for the last 20 years.
